Sausage and Peppers

As you may or may not know I am domestically challenged. This is the reason for this blog after all...
Well the area I suffer the most is in the kitchen. I cannot cook. Or rather, I DO NOT cook, b/c as it turns out I can cook pretty darn well when I put my mind to it.

Lord Hill has been asking me to make one of my signature dishes for a little over a week so this Saturday I finally got around to it. It's Sausage and Peppers and I thought I'd share my recipe with some step by step photos.

Be sure to let me know if you give it a try!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 7 Sweet Italian sausage links
  • 3 Green Peppers
  • 1 or 2 large Spanish onions
  • extra virgin olive oil in a misto sprayer... you can use PAM or another cooking spray or just plain olive oil if you choose.
  • Salt

  1.  Spray pan with olive oil.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  3. Slice peppers and onions into thin strips and place in pan. Mix well and sprinkle a dash of salt.

  4. Bake at 350 degrees.
  5. Brown Sausages in a pan.

  6. After sausages are browned take out the peppers and onions and mix well. Place back in oven and continuing baking until peppers and onions start to soften.
  7. Chop up sausages into bite size pieces and continue to quickly brown all sides of pieces.

  8. Add sausage to pepper and onions. Mix well. Add another dash of salt and lightly spray with olive oil.
  9. Bake for 20 minute or until peppers and onions are the texture you desire.

  10. Serve over white rice.

  1. This looks dee-lish! Andrew made these last week. You're way more domesticated than me, I never cook. Hubs won't let me - I tend to burn everything.

Have you ever tried it with chicken sausage, even bettah - less fat and cals :) I never thought I'd like it, but it's yummers. Trader Joe's makes one, but you can pick them up in any supermarket.

  2. Ally I haven't tried it with chicken sausage. I have tried turkey substitutes in a few recipes and was not a fan at all. I didn't know chicken was an option though. I'll definitely look into it. Thanks for the suggestion!

I can make this, meatballs (with a homemade sauce that I'm quite proud of), Kraft Mac & Cheese and a stir fry thing I made up. I also have a chicken dish I can make in a jiffy if need be. I cook maybe once a month. My hubby does the rest. I tried to make a sandwich this week for lunch and I burned the toast...twice. Ugh.

  4. When I ate meat, this was one of my favorites to make. We always have sausage on hand b/c we buy it in the big packs and I seperate them.

I am so proud of you that you are cooking. If I were eating meat the last time you made your chicken, I totally would've tried it, and probably would've loved it.
I think you are a great hostess and a great cook! :) Anything can be done if you put your mind to it!

  5. @ The Redhead Riter Thanks so much! It was delicous. Every time I look at the pics it makes me wish there were leftovers.

@ Sara - don't they make meatless sausage? you should try it again with a tofu based something or other. I'm sure that'd be delicous since it takes on the flavor of what you cook with it. Heck, I might even try a vegetarian version of this dish.
Thanks for the compliment, I think my hostess skills go up a notch when I have good guests ;-)
