Workout Wednesday - Fishing Edition

Once again I spent Wednesday fishing. This time it was just my dad, Lord Hill, and I. It was a much more relaxing trip this time around. The weather was amazingly perfect. The fish were biting, not as good as last week but there was some action. No keepers...
My workout consisted of lugging equipment to and from the boat and fighting with giant horse shoe crabs and some fish.

Dad's big catch of the day. Not as big as last week but still a nice fish, and in NJ it would have been a keeper.

Lord Hill caught a few baby fish, this was one of many.

He also caught a nice sized fish. About 18 inches - again a keeper in NJ but not in NY.

My fabulously large prehistoric creature which is actually one of very few living fossils...the Horseshoe Crab.
(The horseshoe crab is also on several endangered species lists and it is unlawful for most people to possess them. They are used for medical research and help save human lives but are always released after testing.)

Lord Hill catching yet another fish. No fair.

The men trying to fix our engine troubles. We were stuck for a little while there. Thankfully they got it started. I had no interest in adding "Paddled boat back to shore" to my workout post today.

That's it for now... more photos of the two fishing trips will be getting there own post.

What kind of workout did you do today?

Trendy Treehouse Shutter Love Tuesday - "Summer Fun"

ShutterLoveTuesdays

Last Weds my dad, my 11 year old niece, Lord Hill and I rented a little boat and went fishing for Summer Flounder aka Fluke.
This was the biggest fish we my dad caught. It was 19 inches. 2 inches shy of the "keeper size" It was a shame b/c it was a gorgeous fish. If we were in NJ it would have been a keeper.

We're heading out on the boat again tomorrow. This time it'll just be dad, Lord Hill, and myself. I can't wait!

To Do Tuesday 06-29-10

I decided to spice things up and try to do my To Do Tuesday post a little differently. I make all of my to do lists on a calendar in my control journal, so instead of making it a regular list here I thought I'd just post my calendar. Tell me what you think about the new format. If you hate it/love it..it's hard to read/whatever... I want feedback!

First thing's first... This is my control journal. It has my calendar for the week on one side and a calendar that just goes from 1-31 on the other side that has birthdays/bill/special events filled in with pencil.

Close up of the calendar! Notice the bottom has my menu on it as well.

What's on YOUR to-do list?

Monday Minute - 06-28-10

Monday Minute

Has anyone you've known personally lived to at least 100?
My grandmother lived to her 90's... I am trying really hard to remember if my great aunt was 100 or just close to it... I'm pretty sure she was 100. I could be totally wrong.

What material possession do you value the most?
Hmmm... this is really tough. I am a "stuff" kind of person. I find emotional reasons to hold on to everything. I'm probably a boarderline hoarder to be honest with you. I would say something that has a lot of value to me is a ring that my mother gave me. It was her sister's and when her sister passed away when I was in 2nd grade it became my mother's. She never used to take it off. After she got sick it didn't fit anymore and she gave it to me one night. She told me I wasn't allowed to argue with her, I just had to take it. It meant a LOT to me that she gave it to me b/c I was rarely allowed to even hold it before that.
One of the reasons it is so special is because it was my mom's, before that it was my aunt's, and before that it was separate pieces of my Nanny's jewelry. (Nanny was my mom's mom) She gave the gold and the diamond to my aunt and my aunt designed the ring and had the jewelery melted down to make it. It served as an engagement ring even though she was already married. I am the 4th woman in my family to wear that gold.
I think the ring might be magical, b/c it's like the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. The ring has never been resized yet it fit my aunt, my mother and me. My mom wears a size 9 ring I think, and I wear a size 6 in the summer. Yet, it fits perfect and never falls off, not even in the winter when my size 5 wedding ring falls off.

What do you think happens to us after we die?
I keep trying to write my response but I can't. Maybe this will get a post of it's own in the future...

Most embarrassing item in your house?
hmmm I don't really own anything embarrassing... some might say my Vanilla Ice stash that consists of a water bottle he drank out of, a towel he wiped himself down with, and drumsticks he played with, but I almost wrote about those things for the most valuable item question!

and finally...

If you could rename yourself, what would your name be?
Mrs. Johnny Depp (just don't tell Lord Hill!)

Menu Monday 06-28-10

We have a new menu this week. Hopefully we can stick to it. I left the weekend as TBD b/c there is are 2 carnivals in town and I'm sure some BBQ's as well so we'll see what happens...

What are you eating this week? Don't have the whole week planned, then what are you having for dinner tonight?

Award Time!

I received an award from Sara at Unoffcial Mom today! What a great way to brighten up a Monday. Thank you so much Sara!
Photobucket

As with all good things, it comes with rules:
  1. Thank and link back to the person who gave you this award.
  2. Share seven things about yourself.
  3. Pass this award along to fifteen bloggers who you have recently discovered and who you think are fantastic for whatever reason!
  4. Contact the bloggers you’ve picked and let them know about the award.

Seven things about me...
  1. When Lord Hill and I first moved into our apartment we found a statue of a mom and baby zebra in a crawl space. Zebras have an inside special meaning to us and I knew right then and I took it as a sign. The statue lives in my "office" and I look at it every day.
  2. Windsurfing is one of my all time favorite activities.
  3. I went from being wildly unpopular in highschool due to my lack of concern about what anyone thought of me to being in the Homecoming Court my first semester of college for pretty much the same reason. To thine own self be true and what not.
  4. I am addicted to all things Disney. Figment is my favorite character. If you don't know who he is, you really need to google him.
  5. I desperately want to live "in the middle of nowhere" but I'm afraid of the dark and of being alone and isolated. It's really quite a problem.
  6. You already know about my love of zombies, penguins, and disney pins...so I won't repeat that. Oh wait, I just did. I'm the President of the ZRS Long Island Chapter
  7. I have over 20 AIM screen names.
15 people I am passing this on to...

Think About Thursday Part II

Thank you so much to all of you who offered prayers, support, and good vibes today.

It paid off. I got a clean bill of health! Well, as far as the skin cancer is concerned. The doc said I need to get checked every 6 months bc I have a lot of atypical moles and fair skin, and a bad family history. She said she was surprised at how good I seemed to be especially with the sunburn I showed up with.

My mother, father, and Lord Hill did not get away so easy. They all have to be seen for further evuation/testing on spots of their own. I'm so glad my dad and Lord Hill got checked. My mom just did it for "fun" since she gets checked every few months anyway. The doc who checked us works at the hospital my mom's cancer is/was being treated at.

Do a self exam monthly. If you can, have a friend or family member check the spots you can't see. Take digital phots of any marks you hav e so that you can moniter them and notice any changes. Marks larger than a pencil eraser should be seen by a doctor.

Think About Thursday Part I

It's 12:31 AM and I'm sitting in bed thinking. Worrying. The hubby and the dog are outside and the cats are too busy trying to beat the heat, to bother with me tonight.

So I'm posting in the dark, in my bed, from my phone.

Tomorrow (today technically) I am going for a skin cancer screening. I haven't had one in about a decade and with my personal history, combined with my family history, that is not a good thing.

Please send good vibes my way. All I can think about is the pain and fear that my mom has been dealing with since being diagnosed with melonoma again a few months back. She just finished her radiation treatments this month. I'm scared. I'm trying not to be, I'm trying not to worry about something that I have no control over. I'm trying to hand it all over to God.

*sigh* It's now 1:35 AM
Gnite.

Workout Wednesday 6-23-10

Today's post will have to be a short one as I am still feeling the effects of today's activities.

Today's workout was super fun. Lord Hill, my daddy, my niece, and myself all went fishing! We rented a small boat on the South Shore and had a fabulous day. We had to carry all of the equipment from the car down to the boat. My dad even looked surprised when he realized how much heavy stuff I had thrown in my bag to carry down.

Add to that all of the fighting with the fish and trying to stay balanced on the boat and all of the holding on for dear life while my 11 year old niece drove, plus carrying everything BACK to the car I'd say it was a pretty good workout!

What was your workout like today?

From Lazy to Lady...a picture is worth 1000 words

I was working on making a button for my blog when I realized that the program I need to use is on my laptop which is currently not working. BOOO. So I played around in photobucket instead. I think this mini slide show fits the theme of my blog pretty well don't you? The first photo was taken in December 2001 and the second was taken March 2008.
