Monday Minute

1 - Have you or a family member joined the military?  I have not. I wanted to join the Air Force so bad when I was in highschool but I had an awful experience with a recruiter and that ruined that. My dad was in the Army. I have other relatives in the armed forces as well.

2 - Have you or a family member served his/her country in times of war? I have good friends who have served and are serving now. My family members that I talk about the armed forces with did not serve during a war. My dad served in Germany when the wall went up though.

3 - What's your favorite BBQ food? Ribs.
4 - Do you fart in public? I don't fart. I fluff.

5 - What's the one question that if it shows up on a Monday Minute, you refuse to take part? I can't think of one off the top of my head, I'm sure there is something out there but I just don't know what.

 ---------------------------------------------------
I recently joined a book club full of newly wed local woman who I have come to call my dear friends. The first book I read as part of the club was Neither Sand Nor Sea by Kathleen Kubik. Kathleen happens to be related to one of the girls in our book club and we had the pleasure of having her at our meeting. Kathleen was fabulous and everything I had hoped she would be right down to the fabulous frames of her glasses which I wanted to steal.

I LOVE to read. It's a passion of mine that is ranked right up there with zombies.
With that said, I'm also pretty picky about what I read. I was a little apprehensive about reading a book with a beach on the cover because as much as I love the beach it seemed a little... girly for me. But I figured, hey, what the heck, I'm trying to be more lady like, I"ll give it a chance.

I am so glad I did.

This book is about a year in the life of a young woman around the same age as myself named Carla Montgomery. Carla faces many struggles over the course of the year with work and with men and with personal issues from her past. The book is strong, well written and touching. I laughed, I smiled, I sighed knowingly, I pleaded her to "STOP!" at certain points but most importantly this book made me cry.
It's not a sad book, it's just written in such a way that you feel what Carla feels. The author did a fabulous job at capturing the voice and spirit of this young woman on her journey. The tears are important because I am not one of "those" girls. I don't cry while watching the Hallmark Chanel, I might even laugh at girls who do.
This book touched me in a way that has quickly landed it on my list of favorite reads. It was a cleansing cry, a cry for my mother, for me, for all women who know the pain of heartache whether it be from the loss of a loved one or a broken heart.

Please, read this book. Take it to the beach, read it by the pool, tuck it in the cabinet in your bathroom for all I care... just read it.

Mission Monkey Day!

Hello blog-world!  I am participating in what's known around the world as Mission Monkey day!  What is Mission Monkey you ask?  Well, there's this blogger friend of ours known as Pixie Momma, aka Michelle.  Michelle has a little girl, or Monkey as she's known by who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma.  To learn more about it, click here. Monkey is a sweet little 16 month old girl.  She doesn't deserve this.  Nobody deserves this.

This is why the blogging universe is banning together like never before to rally around Michelle and Monkey to provide support.  In addition to further entice you to lend your hand, and donate to the cause, we have over 50 items that have been donated.  Many bloggers are hosting these fabulous giveaways and all you need to win one of these items is just one raffle ticket.

Free Dog and Cat to Good Home

UGH. I am of course kidding... after all they are my babies and I love them like they were my children. BUT let me tell you ... they are lucky they are so cute or one of them would have wound up out the window today!

Someone, (I'm looking at Tango and/or Petey) PEED on my bed today. On my favorite bedspread. The one with all the fabulous matching throw pillows.

This is the 3rd bedspread to meet such a horrible and stinky fate.

Oh fabulous bedspread how I'll miss you...

Zombie Research Society

There is something you should all know about me...

I take zombies very seriously.

I have machetes in my apartment and a bug out bag ready to go.

I am constantly on the lookout for good "safe houses" in case of an outbreak.

Now, I'm not saying I believe in people coming back from the dead zombies, but I think it's a real biological warfare possibility that there will be some kind of virus that wipes us out like in the zombie movies.

Plus, I'm always worried about disasters and worse case scenarios in general and I find that putting zombies into the scenario makes it more "fun" to prepare for...

"If you're prepared for the walking dead, you're pretty much prepared for anything."
That's my motto.

SO, I took it upon myself to contact the Zombie Research Society and start a local chapter.

I'm very excited and overwhelmed about all of this. I'm a little concerned about how to keep up my lady status while fighting the undead but I'm sure I can figure it out.

For example...
Actually, Jim's Gun Supply has a great variety of pink guns to help girls keep their lady like status on the battle field.

I already own these awsome and durable/comfortable boots (I wore them at my wedding!)

How are you preparing for Z-day?

Trendy Treehouse Shutter Love Tuesday

Friendship

Look closely and you'll see the little black cat being snuggled by the little white dog. They are the best of friends even if they don't always act like it.

ShutterLoveTuesdays

I Gave Up

I gave up, gave in, and threw in the towel yesterday...
I finally went to the doctor.

Diagnosis: Bronchitis which might actually be pneumonia. We'll know in 2 days if the medicine doesn't help.

Blah.
At least now I know why it feels like there is an elephant standing on my chest.

Monkey Monday

MISSION: MONKEY

Photobucket

* Have you ever peed in the shower/bath/pool?
of course

* What is your biggest pet peeve? I can't stand it when people stack dirty dishes. Not only does it set off my ocd to the point where I can't touch the plates without having anxiety, it just bothers me in general. I hate it. Please never do this around me.

* What's the story behind your blog title?
Well, I'm lazy, and I'm trying my best to become more ladylike and be a good hostess and basically be like a 50's housewife... plus as an anniversary gift last year I got my husband and I the title of Lord and Lady  and would like to be able to use it without people looking at me like "this lazy slob can't possibly be a "Lady"

* What is your definition of success?
Staying true to yourself no matter what the world throws at you. Being able to look at yourself in the mirror and sleep well at night with little to no regret about the way you've treated people.

* If you were famous, what would you want to be famous for?
I want to be a world famous event/wedding planner to the stars and eventually have my own tv show or something

Friday 5!

I am still not feeling well, and I thought about just skipping this week's Friday 5 because I know you'd all forgive me for missing a week but I have been slacking on so much lately that I really couldn't let myself do that. So without further ado..

Lady Hill's 5 Things That Make Me Feel Better When I'm Sick:
  1. A nice giant cup of tea. Thanks to my daddy, no matter what is bothering me a cup of tea always helps take the edge off. Especially if it's in one of my favorite mugs.
  2. My furbabies. Especially when they are extra snuggly. Petey and Tango always seem to know when I'm not feeling well and need some extra lovin'.
  3. Looking at anything Disney related and/or planning a Disney vacation.
(this is one of the first photos I took with my Nikon D50. I still love it)
  4. A nice long bath. It's been ages since I've gotten to take a nice long bath at home since I have a stall shower but when I can do it, it's  niiiice.
  5. Nyquil. I don't know how people live without Nyquil.

What do you do to help yourself when you're not feeling well?

Follow Friday!

It is Friday again.
If you are new WELCOME and thank you for stopping by.
I look forward to stopping by to follow you too.
*Please be sure to leave me your blog address so I can follow you back*

Click on monkey to donate...please help!

I've Been Slacking

I'm not just talking about with my blog either.
I have let the apartment fall to ruins again.
I've just been stressed and busy with work and what not and then Lord Hill got sick last Thursday and has been no help (can't blame him b/c like I said, he's sick) and in an inevtiable turn of events I wound up getting sick as well. I have been spending all of my free time in bed and just got up to grab a cup of tea when I realized that my favorite mug is burried at the bottom of my sink, and I tripped over several "things" on my way to the kitchen.

I am feeling very overwhelmed and disapointed in myself. I have to kick this virus's ass and then kick my own ass into gear.

I got a fabulous hair cut last week and it really perked me up and I thought I'd be well on my way to doing so much better in the "lady" aspect of the journey. My nails are done, I gave myself an at home budget friendly mani pedi and I have some new clothes to rock...

Ugh. Someone come find my favorite mug for me?  This is what it looks like... I think it's under the pot and the cookie sheet next to the glasses and forks.

Monkey Monday

I was trying to figure out what to do with my 100th post. (this post) I wanted it to be special, to mean something. I had no idea what to do with it.
So, I am dedicating it to a precious little girl who is fighting for her life.
Please click on the button and go offer Michelle some prayers and support for her little Monkey girl.

Photobucket

The Daily Dose of Reality also dedicated this Monday's blog to Monkey. He renamed his Monday Minute the Monkey Minute.
Here are my answers. Please participate and answer the last question as honestly as possible so that Michelle can read some stories of hope.

1 - How old do you act?
I think it really depends on the situation. I think I'm sort of stuck at 19 at times. I always felt like an old soul trapped in a young body when I was growing up. I had  a lot to deal with and work through and I think I grew up pretty fast...but b/c of that I think there are times now when I act younger than I am to try and get back some of the youth I feel like I lost.

2 - As far back as you can remember, what did you want to be when you grew up?
My 5th grade year book says I wanted to be the first female president.

3 - If you were to write a book based on your life, what would the title be?
Apathetic to Enthusiastic Juliet (it's already in the works)

4 - What's something that you do that's considered "childish" by most?
I collect things. I collect penguins, and webkinz and disney pins and I love cartoons and stuffed animals. I also make silly faces and love a good prank.

5 - The last question isn't a question.  Write a story of a time of when you or someone you know overcame great adversity.
My mother. My mother has battled lung cancer, major heart attack, diabetes, skin cancer (numerous times) and is battling melonoma as I type this. She goes for radiation every day at 8 am and is finally on her 1 week break between treatments. Yesterday was mother's day and while I know she would have loved to stay in bed where she was comfortable she was at the table, dressed nicely with a smile on her face playing with her grandchildren.
