I have never read Catcher in the Rye and I thought JD Salinger was a character from a tv show.
This is coming from someone with straight A's in English through her entire academic career.
What I do know about the book is that Law & Order and other movies and tv shows have used it to show that someone is unstable. Crazy serial killers tend to collect different editions of the book and that tips the cops off.
